A veteran coach of over 26 seasons at the professional, collegiate, and high school level, Shawn Liotta has earned a reputation as a consistent winner, producer of record-setting offenses, and ambassador of arena football. Liotta has served as a Head Coach or executive in professional football since 2007.
Coach Liotta most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Wheeling Miners of the National Arena League.
Liotta joined the Miners in 2025 after being named the Head Football Coach of the expansion Wilkes-Barre Scranton Mavericks of AF1. Liotta previously held an executive role from 2016-2024 as the Head Football Coach and Director of Coaching for Fan Controlled Football.
During this time Liotta was an integral force behind the innovative fan focused league that averaged millions of viewers weekly and was a two-time Emmy award nominee.
During this time Liotta worked with such players as Johnny Manziel and Terrell Owens, while managing the entire league roster of over 180 players and coaches. Liotta was integral in the operation of the league's open tryout camps which resulted in signing several players who would be signed by the league and later move on to NFL opportunities.
Prior to joining Fan Controlled Sports and Entertainment (FCF), Liotta served as a Head Coach in professional indoor football from 2007-2015, primarily in Erie, PA.
A proven winner Liotta led the Erie Explosion to back-to-back Championships from (2013-2014) and an undefeated (12-0) season in 2013. Liotta held a 76%-win percentage during his tenure in Erie (58-18) and led his teams to the playoffs in 7 out of 8 seasons as a Head Coach, while compiling a (35-5) record at the Erie Insurance Arena. Twice named league Coach of the Year, his teams established 26 league or national records, and several of his former players have advanced to opportunities in the XFL, CFL and NFL.
Known for his high-flying offense, his teams have set scoring records in 3 different leagues including the all-time record for points scored in a single professional indoor/arena game (138) during the 2011 season. From 2011-2012 the Explosion averaged over 70 points per game and Coach Liotta has directed the top ranked offense in the league for four consecutive seasons, had 2 different first year quarterbacks named league MVP, and has coached five different players to league MVP honors.
Coach Liotta has coached 5 different quarterbacks to first team All-League honors and has had 3 different quarterbacks named League MVP under his guidance. Liotta gained experience at the collegiate level at Duquesne University as the Running Backs coach from 2002-2004.
During his tenure there the Dukes captured the 2002 and 2003 MAAC Championship and the 2003 NCAA Division IAA Mid-Major National Championship.A long-time high school coach and in-demand national clinic speaker, Liotta has authored two books on offensive football including the best-selling "No Huddle No Mercy" which details his offensive system that established a Pennsylvania State scoring record in 2014.
Shawn Liotta is a 2002 graduate of Robert Morris University and resides in Lower Burrell, PA with his wife Allison and daughter Lily.
